Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: I’m Jabrile Frazier-Sears born March 19, 1998 in Newark, New Jersey to two wonderful black parents. Born in project buildings known as “Lil’ Bricks” in “Brick City”, one of Newark’s famous nicknames, before moving into a townhouse at age 7 until 18. From the age of 2 I knew I loved to sing. I like to say I could sing before I could speak. My mother was a talented singer as well and most likely where I picked up that love for music and singing. Growing up watching Michael Jackson and especially Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey etc. my mind was made up and I knew I was going to be a singer/performer. There was no feeling that compared to the feeling of being on stage and nothing that made me happier than singing and performing and that holds true to this very day. Now living in Los Angeles, California chasing a dream that for me is still very much a goal but that has lost its value due to an evolving, fame-seeking society. Overall my life has been a never ending journey to becoming a better musician and becoming an artist, learning who I am with every trial and tribulation and every test life has put me through. I’m very proud of the person I am today but the present is not as rewarding as it once was. I had to understand that the world isn’t going to show me the love I show to it almost to a fault but I persevere anyway.
What Inspires You Every day? : Beyoncé. Although I have never met her yet, the first time I laid eyes on her I was mesmerized. It didn’t help that my mother was a huge fan as well and would often imitate her combining my love for her and my love for Beyoncé into one big ball of love and admiration for such beautiful, talented and self-sufficient women. Beyoncé, in my opinion is the closest thing to perfect we could find in a human being and although it’s almost impossible to live up to some of the standards she’s set both as an artist and person, it’s something that truly inspires me to work to match that level of perfection with everything that I love.
What is some words of wisdom you live by?: Live your truth!
Do what makes you happy!
Love yourself as much as you can!
Spread love not hate
Unfortunately Life doesn’t care about your morality but don’t let it derail from being a good person. We need more good people in the world now more than ever.
What is your ultimate goal in life? : My one and only goal in life is to be happy and enjoy my time on earth as messed up as it is. I want to find a way to do what I love to do and make a substantial living because unfortunately we need money to survive. I then want to use that substantial living to take care of myself, my family and the less fortunate. I want to be the person to actively change people’s lives. I don’t mean just donating to charities and organizations but actively making a positive impact for oppressed and ostracized people and communities. Whether that be monetary or positive affirmations, or uplifting environments. My goal is to make as many people happy as possible so that we can all live the lives we deserve and not just exist bc our parents gave birth to us. The feeling of love and light and peace I feel when I sing or hear music is what I want everyone to feel however that manifests itself. Love and Happiness is the key to prosperity! That’s what I want for all human beings
How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : I’ve been managing. One great thing that came from the pandemic is my breakthrough of self love and self worth. On the day of May 9, 2020 I recorded a video speaking to myself to watch when I fall into depression. Previously in 2019 I had battled crippling depression and suicidal thoughts and ideation because of the state of my life at the time and because of an eye-opening realization of the harsh truths of a cold world that I want to change so badly and realize that it’s out of my control. I went to the roof of my apartment and turned to music as I always do and while singing a song called “Gonna Breakthrough” by Mary J. Blige I thought of her story and mine and the similarities they have and had my own breakthrough and so I stopped the song to record the video to myself basically telling myself how much I mean to me, the things I deserve out of live and the benefits of a ring such a light in a dark world!
What is a message you would like to give others? : Live your truth and stop following all these man made rules because society tells you to. You are in control of your own life and you should do whatever makes you happy as long as it does not hurt, harm, endanger or affect someone else.
Spread Love and as much of it as you can. Love is infinite and we can make as much as we want. Free yourself of all negative energy and negative thoughts because in the long run it hurts you and causes you to hurt others. We can progress much faster as a society if more people had love and compassion for themselves first and for others. Remember the golden rule. Do unto others as you would want done to you. If you wouldn’t want it for you why accept it or cause it for someone else. We are all unique and no one person is the same. Armed with this knowledge don’t be so quick to judge or condemn others for their differences. Embrace all the quirks, and differences we all bring!
What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: My names origin comes from God’s archangel who’s said to be his most powerful and the messenger of his word. I am thankful for that name and while I am not perfect, everyday I strive to be the best person I can be and to be beautiful inside first and hopefully it shines through the outside. I’m not super religious and I don’t claim a religion but I believe in God and he is a God of Love, hope and prosperity and that is all that I want for myself and every single human being. If I could find a way to merge my love for music and performing with my love of seeing good in the world and people being happy. I would be fulfilled and hopefully have made God proud of me in the interim. Thank you
