Introduce yourself(tell about yourself & who you are)

Hello my name is Ruby, I’m a 23 year old dancer and dance teacher. I’m the Assistant Director for Theory Dance, a Hip Hop dance studio with competition and recreational dance classes. I also teach recreational Acrobatic classes.

What inspired you to get into your field of dance?

I was a competitive gymnast and after a bad injury I started dancing as a low impact way to heal. I ended up falling in love with it. After being on a competition dance team for a few years, using my background in gymnastics I started teaching acrobatic dance and eventually ballet and hip hop.

What are some words of wisdom you live by everyday?

“There’s a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” Life comes in seasons, as bad as it is now it WILL get better and as good as it is now it won’t always be that way. That is just life and you need to find and lean on the positive, supportive people around you in the bad times.

What are some goals that you have in life you’d like to complete?

I am part German, English, Scottish, Irish and Dutch. I would like to travel to each of these places to better understand the culture as well as experience their cultural dances first hand.

As I continue in my dancing journey, I would like others to be inspired and feel the same passion as I do when I perform and watch others.

What are some struggles you faced in life to be where you are now?

Being respected by peers and coworkers, and trusting that the knowledge and ideas I have add value. I’m more quietly observant and not as naturally extroverted, I also look a lot younger than my age so I’ve had to deal with being looked down upon and not treated seriously.

What is one way you are making an impact in the world today?

I like teaching kids which gives me a unique opportunity and the responsibility to provide a positive environment and be a positive role model in their lives.

Last question what else would you like to tell the world about you?

Through all of the challenges I’ve faced and will face in the future, I know there is a purpose for them and they’ve only made me into a stronger person today. God has a plan for all of our lives and promises to never leave us no matter what we are going through.
