Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: I’m known as Lacy or sometimes just L. I’m a New Englander currently living on the West Coast. I am a survivor, an activist, an editor, a data guru, a writer, an artist, a runner, and a pretty good cook. I am owned by a fur baby named Luna.
What Inspires You Every day? : I’m inspired by the commitment of my coworkers in supporting intimate partner violence survivors, especially during the COVID pandemic. It’s an honor to work with advocates who provide trauma-informed services and community education through a culturally responsive and anti-oppression lens. I’m also inspired by the resilience of survivors and their many successes.
What is some words of wisdom you live by?: One of my favorite sayings is by Maya Angelou: “The thorn from the bush one has planted, nourished and pruned pricks more deeply and draws more blood.”
I’ve learned through my experiences that the one person in life you can fully trust is yourself. I am a loving person by nature, but I won’t allow myself to be blindsided by betrayal. I live expecting the best and preparing for the worst.
What is your ultimate goal in life? : Ultimately, I want to live on the coast of New England with my husband and fur baby. I want to paint more, sing more, and write more. And I want to be remembered for my tenacity in the face of adversity.
How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : I’ve been fortunate to be able to work from home along with my husband. And I am even more fortunate that family and friends who tested positive and were very sick all survived. It’s been a difficult year for us all. And like everyone else, I am adjusting to a new normal. I think it will be a long time before life as we knew it pre-pandemic returns. But I always roll with the punches.
What is a message you would like to give others? : Be kind to yourself. You can only be there for others when you care about your own well-being. Then spread that kindness everywhere.
What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: I am safe and happy 🙂
