Introduce yourself?: Hello, I am Ashley Medina. I am 16 years old living in a world that almost seems like a movie. There’s the complicated family, best friend who you call each night, friends who make you laugh, and the school that stresses one out. However, it’s not true. My life is not a movie despite my willingness to believe it. I instead distract myself with other things like music and school work each day. I am not like your usual teenager though. I am 16 and am in my second year of college. I’m not more intelligent than other kids, I just took an opportunity and worked hard to keep it. Therefore, the stress is definitely a big part of my life. I had to learn how to balance my crazy life at home with my crazy life at school. It’s taught me a lot. It has taught me how to be strong and resistant.
What inspires you everyday?: Everyday is a new day but the constant is inspiration. My past inspires me to be better. How I was years ago compared to now is a drastic change. It is a better change. I went through something that could break a person but I let it make me stronger. In the inbetween, I found myself. It motivated me to keep going because the hope of content inspired me to reach it.
What is something you would change about people in the world?: The world is a place of many contradictions, like good and bad. One thing can apply to half the population while the other half does not relate at all. Yet, one thing that is universal is ignorance. It is in everyone no matter how small, and even the smallest is dangerous. If I could change one thing about people in the world, it would be ignorance.
How do you feel about the people in the world?: Despite all the evil created, the world is beautiful. It has its ugly parts but the beauty in it is sometimes under appreciated. The people who go out of their way to be kind are a major reason why the human race stands. Kindness is not a weakness but a strength. I feel like people are not born evil, evil is created. My love for people is dependent on what they make of themselves. I feel that people have a choice.
What is something you’ve struggled with in life?: I have not lived enough to have experienced a “full” life as society labels it, but it does not make my life any less. Something I have struggled with in my 16 years is patience, but I am learning. I have improved in learning how to wait for things to come. Any struggle can be overcome. Some struggles are permanent and seem like a burden, but if that is he case then each day becomes a blessing.
What is a positive message you would give others?: There needs to be a balance in how much you think with your brain and how much you think with your heart. Every decision has a consequence, let it be positive. You can choose to make the right choice to begin with so there is no room for error. Every day slow down and smile because it all works out in the end.
if you could make a difference in the world how would you do that?: To be able to make a difference in the world, there must be sacrifice. It takes more than one person, yet it begins with one person. There is a such thing as the inevitable, but trying does not hurt. If I could change one thing about the world to make it a safer and more desirable place for future generations, I would start with the future generations. Kids at a young age absorb more than ignorant adults do in their late years. Making a difference does not happen overnight, it happens with a generation. The new generations are the ones with the real power. Try to influence the world but target the ones that matter more. They understand more than people would like to admit. Sheltering them is what’s wrong with the world. They need a fighting chance to live in the world they want for themselves.
