Samantha Castillo: One thing I tell myself when I’m feeling stuck is “The best way to find yourself is to get lost.”

Introduce yourself, who are you, what is it you do, etc?

My name is Samantha Castillo, I’m 25 and I live in south Texas. Currently, in between jobs but I am studying sports management and I love to sing, and write lyrics.

You mentioned you like to sing, do you plan on making a music career one day or are you passionate about something else?

Well growing up I was always told to pick a realistic career and still get told that by my family to this day, so I picked something that I’m passionate about which is sports but my heart always turns to music no matter how many times I turn my back on it, music is just always an escape for me. When I’m happy, angry, sad, I just sing, and I can express how I’m feeling through music and it truly makes me feel at ease when I sing.

What is something that inspires you to keep going even though there are some challenges you face?

Honestly I have a lot of epiphanies where I feel like I’m not meant to be where I’m at and I always hear what I’m supposed to hear when I’m torn between a more realistic career and my dream. Something that keeps me going the most is wanting a family of my own and one day I would love to share my love for music with them

What is some words of wisdom you live by on a daily basis?

One thing I tell myself when I’m feeling stuck is “The best way to find yourself is to get lost.”

“Be strong and be you” which is something my grandpa told me in a dream after he passed in 2015

What goals do you have for the next 2-5 years?

Just to get out of my hometown so I can become successful and give back, and make my parents proud

What is one way you’d like to make an impact in the world or your community?

It would be great to make an impact while I’m still being myself because it encourages others to just be themselves, especially when it’s someone in my own community because we’re always told no one makes it out of their hometown. If I can make an impact on the young people in my community, I would definitely encourage them to be themselves no matter what

Last question what else would you like to tell the world about you?

I’m just an awkward, shy girl from Texas that loves to sing about her feelings and I would love for you to hear it some day
