Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: my name is vylet brooks, i’m a sophomore in high school and i’m working towards going to college and becoming a neurosurgeon, i love to dance and go on long road trips!

What Inspires You Every day? : Each day is something unique. Nothing will be the same as the last as tiny things will change, that’s what inspires me is that no day is the same as the other which means it’s full of possibilities of something new every day.

What is some words of wisdom you live by?: “Society taught us how to hate. Hate taught us violence. Violence taught us regret. Regret taught us pain. Pain taught us love. Love taught us how to laugh and laughter makes every moment far more beautiful then we could ever imagine” – R.M Drake

I live by these words every day as something negative happens there will be a good outcome from it and to always keep my head up high and keep pushing in life as there’s so much more to come for me.

What is your ultimate goal in life? : To live up to the standards i’ve put for myself but not to physically or emotionally hurt myself in the process and to try and make a difference if not in the world then in myself and family.

How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : During the pandemic i’ve struggled with re-occurring depression and anxiety and it has made me more isolated then ever but also through those times I found myself in different ways i never thought i could. I found my love for medical related stuff and my family. It made me a lot closer with my family which i’m beyond grateful for as they are my foundation to my life.

What is a message you would like to give others? : Be strong. There’s going to be days when you struggle and feel you can’t get up and just can’t do it anymore, just sit and do something that’s not going to push yourself whether it’s sleeping or going for a walk or listening to music. Do something that will make you see that everything is worthwhile and as it may not always be good, your strong and we all have been through rough patches but we will get out of it together.

What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: I’ve had a childhood of watching my dad abuse my mom for 10 years and as puberty hit it hurt me hard but also made me who I am and I saw my mom grow as a person and it has made my life filled with what i like to see it as, a flower blooming. It had made me tough and mature and happy for who i am even though it terrorized me for some time.
