Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: My name is Hanna Rose, I am 23 years old and an neurodivergent artist from Germany. I love soap bubbles, the starry sky, the sea and everything that has to do with art. In addition to painting and drawing, I sing, play numerous instruments and write my own songs. I also recently moved to a sailing boat with my boyfriend, on which we now live.
What Inspires You Every day? : I am mainly inspired by the magic of nature. Be it a sunset, the sound of the waves on the sea, the smell of rain or the moon – it’s the little things that make you feel alive. I also love music because it allows me to immerse myself in other worlds. But also my own inner world, my imagination, inspires me a lot, because everything is possible in it.
What is some words of wisdom you live by?: I don’t live by wisdom because I think everyone should find their own. Of course, it’s good to have something to live by. But I am someone who loves doing something that no one has ever done before. So if I were to live according to a wisdom, then someone would have already lived according to this one. I have not yet found my own wisdom. I think I’m still a little too young and inexperienced for that. But I think it goes in the direction of appreciating the little things in life and daring to be who you are.
What is your ultimate goal in life? : I don’t have an ultimate goal in life, because I think if you have one then you put yourself under too much pressure to want to achieve it. When you set goals you expect to achieve them and are sad when that doesn’t happen. I, on the other hand, have wishes. When I make a wish, I let go of expectation and control and let myself go with life. My wish is that if my life were a movie, it would be such an interesting and beautiful movie that I would watch over and over again. By “beautiful” I don’t mean one that doesn’t contain sad scenes or has a positive ending. By that I mean a film that gives you something to think about and something to learn from. My other small wishes are to be able to live from my art, to encourage people who are “different” to be themselves, to travel the world by sailing boat and to find and live out my purpose in life.
How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? :
Because I am someone who likes to be alone and social interaction is not one of the things I am very good at, the pandemic has not affected me very much. Before the pandemic, my boyfriend and I drove around the Baltic Sea in our VW Caddy, visited the North Cape and Croatia. So the lack of road trips was the only thing I missed. I really appreciate that the pandemic has had little impact on me, because unfortunately I know many whose livelihoods have been destroyed as a result. Because I am struggling with my mental health myself, I had many ups and downs during the pandemic. Things that brought you out of a low before the pandemic, such as the anticipation of a concert, fastival or simply a visit to a public swimming pool, have all disappeared. So it was often difficult for me to get back on my feet. But luckily I have very wonderful people around me, who encourage me to never give up and show me that I am not alone.
What is a message you would like to give others? : The first message is: Be yourself. If you are crazy, be crazy, even if others think it is childish. If you like to flap your arms when you are happy or excited, as I like to do, then do it also when others look at you as if you are an alien and point their finger at you. If you like to eat cheese with mustard, then eat it even if others say it’s gross (it’s delicious … :)). The second message is: Never lose your curiosity. Curiosity is one of the most important human qualities, which unfortunately is often lost in adulthood. Be ready to learn new things and keep developing. But don’t forget to question what you learn yourself. Don’t forget to use your brain, not just to learn knowledge, but above all to think for yourself. The third message is: Never lose hope. Be it the hope that after a dark time in life a better one will come again. Be it the hope that more and more people will become aware of how valuable our planet is and that it should be protected. Be it the hope for peace, security, love. Here we are already at the fourth message: Love and never forget to feel. And the fifth message: Always have a pinch of magic ready. I won’t write anything further on these last two points, as these can only be described with feelings and words are of little use.
What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: I am currently in the process of creating a website and an online shop for my art and plan to make it public in autumn. I will tell you how to find the website on my Instagram account, hanna.rose.art. On the account I show my works of art as well as our life on the sailing boat, the trips my boyfriend and I make and also a few of my songs. There’s a lot of craziness and magic to see, too. So be sure to stop by :).
