Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: Hi, I’m Bryan Ratushniak. I live in Toronto Canada with my wonderful wife Sue and my little dog Molly. I’m 58 years old and recently retired as a firefighter Captain with Toronto Fire after a thirty-two year career. I’m a father to two adult sons, a stepdad to an adult step-son and step-daughter as well as a grandfather to two very busy grandchildren.
What Inspires You Every day? : I’m inspired by the laughter of young children, the beauty of nature and the courageous journey of those who have to continually overcome adversity.
What is some words of wisdom you live by?: Do good. Do right. Be honest. Be kind. Better never stops.
What is your ultimate goal in life? : My ultimate goal is to live a long healthy life with those I love and to continue to be a writer sharing stories that entertain and inspire others.
How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : I initially found the pandemic lockdown was no big inconvenience for me personally because I’m an introvert and happy to stay inside with my own company. Now a year into the pandemic I find I am struggling mentally with the fatigue of sameness and the stress I see it has placed on my wife, my children and step children with everyone trying to stay healthy and safe. I see how it has impacted my community financially and empathize with the stress experienced by those affected. I look forward to the time when the pandemic is behind us and we can again socialize and explore this wonderful world we live in.
What is a message you would like to give others? : Do something to improve someone else’s day whether it’s shovelling the snow from their sidewalk, helping them to carry a bulky piece of furniture or just smiling and asking ‘how are you today?’ to that person working behind the service desk. We all have it within us to brighten someone’s day.
What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: I’m an actor, screenwriter and musician, a former Natural Mr. Canada bodybuilding champion, a PTSD survivor and author of the memoir Aftermath: A Firefighter’s Life published by Cormorant Books. I love the creative process and look forward to the opportunity to entertain people with my stories as they watch their televisions or snuggled up to read in their favourite comfy chair.
