Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: Hey you all! I’m 18 years old and living in Tucson, Arizona. I go to the University of Arizona (Bear Down) studying Creative Writing! There’s not much to say about me other than the fact that I’m just this person trying to enjoy life each day, a dorky writer who will dance and sing no matter how silly I look or just chill out with some good food that has thousands of calories and watch movie after movie.
What Inspires You Every day? : A better future. Growing up I suffered a lot with depression and anxiety, then when I was in my early-teen years OCD and ADHD added more struggles. For so long I was in a terrible place and what finally began to give me a path out of it was thinking of my future, of what I could be in one or even five years. I wanted to become a better person for myself, and still to this day, I work hard every single moment to make today count and give myself the best future possible.
What is some words of wisdom you live by?: “Live for today”
Not every day is going to be perfect or even good. You will fall down at times, but it’s whether you choose to stay on the ground or get back up that will define who you are. Life is now or never. Don’t quit your dreams because every second counts and you will reach them one day as long as you work for it. Like a book, in life we need to flip the page and move forward each and every day in order to get to a happier tomorrow.
What is your ultimate goal in life? : Writing, it’s been my foundation for years and I would be absolutely nothing without it. I’ve written a novel, Call of the Wolves, and it was inspired by some amazing people in my life, like my best friend. Writing that book was just a huge stepping stone for me to feeling confident and happy, I was able to escape one world into one that I created. I’m currently writing a second novel with a friend of mine and have a few more that I can’t wait to get to as soon as possible! My ultimate goal in life isn’t to be published, and while that is a dream, my goal is to have my writing be something that even just one person says was an inspiration for them. Reading and writing got me through my darkest of days and I hope that my writing could help someone who may have gone through what I did or just in general, to bring smiles to peoples faces and gain a connection with them that is through stories.
How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : There’s been good days and bad days within this pandemic. Honestly I’m just feeling lucky that my friends, family, and I for the most part have been okay because they’re the most important things to me. I have lost some things because of Covid, whether it was my senior year or people who I loved, but I know how Covid has taken its toll on everyone and am grateful for what I do have. At home, there are many days when I just want to be lazy and do nothing all day but then I end up feeling unmotivated and depressed, so I’ve tried to do what I can in order to stay active. Lately I’ve been hiking a lot more, I write as much as possible, play my guitar and try to learn more with music, and even just talking with friends and family has really helped me get through my days.
What is a message you would like to give others? : Be who you are because that is the best person you can possibly be. I know that there are days when surviving is the hardest thing, where you feel lost and alone. I promise you, it gets easier. I never thought I would be in the place I am today mentally, and I did survive my struggles, but it didn’t come without hard work and time. Just keep being who you are and doing the best you can each day and I promise that those dark days will fade away.
What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: If you would like to check out my story, Call of the Wolves, this is a link for it! I hope you give it a read and enjoy it, it would really mean the world to me and thank you so much for hearing a part of my story! Xxx
