Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: My name is Krista, I am a Canadian girl. I was born and raised in Northern Ontario. I’ve travelled around Asia teaching English. When I moved back to Canada I started working in healthcare. I ended up getting really burnt out and went back to work in Education. My husband and I are also farmers. I laugh everytime I think of being a farmer, it was no where close to being part of my life plan.
What Inspires You Every day? : Every day people inspire me, and nature is inspiring. I work with kids that have different disabilities and watching them overcome some of the biggest hurdles in life and then getting back up with a smile is amazing to witness. They are so much more courageous then I could ever hope to be in this lifetime. I may teach them, but they have really opened my eyes and made me want to advocate for them.
What is some words of wisdom you live by?:Don’t stop, don’t give up and don’t settle. When you’re young, travel, explore keep learning about yourself. So much changes between the ages of 20 and 30. I am definitely not the same person I was 10 years ago. Always keep an open mind and keep learning. That’s one point I can’t stress enough, always keep learning.
What is your ultimate goal in life? : My ultimate goal is to have a fully functional rescue farm. The last thing in the world I ever expected was to live in the country and start farming. I want to teach people how to respect our environment and animals.
How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : Covid has taught me a lot about self sufficiency. It really kicked mine and my husbands ass into gear with farming. I raise my own food now and it’s feels so freeing. I realize how lucky I am to provide for others.
What is a message you would like to give others? : Get off social media for a while, don’t let it run your life. Get out of your comfort zone. Stop comparing yourself to other people, especially “famous” people. You’re beautiful, smart, and brave. Life can really suck sometimes but humanity is resilient and so are you.
What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: I’ve lost 3 of the most important people in my life within 5 years. My Grandma, my Mom and my Papa. I felt like my world was over and I could have given up. I was lucky between our animals and my husband, giving up wasn’t an option. Giving up is easy, fighting back is hard work but it’s worth it. My life didn’t go the way I expected but with hard work it worked out and I’m so grateful.
