Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: My name is Raquel, I reside in Jackson Michigan. I am married, and I am a mother of two.
What Inspires You Every day? : My child are what inspire me everyday to just get out of bed and keep going. Being someone who deals with mental health + postpartum depression it definitely hasn’t been easy, but I just keep telling myself it’s only temporary and it does get better.
What is some words of wisdom you live by?: “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” The way I look at it is that everything happens for a reason, even if we don’t agree with it. Just know everything has a purpose and how we react to things in life is one of those things.
What is your ultimate goal in life? : To leave earth knowing I’ve done my absolute best. I’ve given my child the best life possible, and set them on the path to make their lives even greater when I am no longer here. I want my children to know that nothing comes free in life, nor does it come easy. We all have to go through a struggle sometime in our lifetime, but those are where the best stories are made. I just want to give off my best and positive energy to those I come in contact with and let them know they are loved, even if I don’t know them personally.
How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : Yes! The pandemic had affected me. I’ve spent most of it pregnant with my second child, and that alone has been very different. Being at home and isolated from those I am closest to has been very difficult for me, and if I am being honest it has wore on my mental health and possibly made it worse. Being someone who suffers from separation anxiety the pandemic didn’t help at all. But I am getting through it, and I know it’s all for the cause and keeping everyone else safe.
What is a message you would like to give others? : A message I want to to give to others is that it’s okay. What you’re going through is okay. Everyone battles things in life, but how we handle it and respond to it what will make is stronger in the end. I also want others to know that not everyone will support you, but don’t focus on that person(s) when there is a whole tribe behind you, that’s much larger than them who does support and love you.
What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: Getting to where I am at in life right now hasn’t been an easy ride. I’ve gone through things, I’ve beat statistics. A little more into that is I’ve been in the foster care system, and even though it did leave a mark on my life I look back and think about how that alone has made me the person that I am. I’ve graduated high school, college. I’m married and have the children, the house, the cars etc. but at the end of day none of it came easy. What I’m saying to you now is that the journey may be hard but it’s worth it in the end
