Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: Hi I’m Julia, a writer and harpist. I’m releasing an album this spring under the stage name The Lonely Harps Club!
What Inspires You Every day? : Walking. There wasn’t much to do in the village I lived in as a teenager so I walked around the countryside near our house, and I wrote my first songs and poems on walks. I need to go outside and move my body every day, no matter the weather. It’s so important for my mood, my health, and my creativity.
What is some words of wisdom you live by?: Keep taking steps towards your goals. Even if all you can do right now is a tiny step, or even half a step, you know you are moving in the right direction.
What is your ultimate goal in life? : I would love to be able to live comfortably solely on my music and creative writing. And have enough time and money spare to help others.
How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : It’s been mixed. On the one hand, I’ve liked having time to think and spend time in nature. I’ve always preferred working from home so that’s an improvement for me. But I miss performing. I didn’t realise quite how much I loved it before. What I wouldn’t give to be able to go on stage and perform my music to an audience. It’s something I took for granted.
And just there are times when the horror of it hits you. 100,000 people have died in the UK… I think we’ll be processing that national trauma for years to come.
What is a message you would like to give others? : You never know how much time you have, so if there’s something you really want, go for it. In my early 20s, instead of taking the steady jobs I was offered, I moved to Tokyo. There I tried so many things I had wanted to like writing, modelling, acting, and playing in a band. I travelled a lot too. When I returned to the UK a lot of my friends were ahead of me in their careers and adult milestones but, especially now the pandemic has hit, I’m so glad I did it. You don’t know what the future holds so don’t put off your passion.
What else would you like to tell others about you or your life?: I’m really proud of this album I’m putting out this spring. I don’t care whether it makes any money, but if people would listen to it and enjoy it or get something out of it, that would mean the world to me.
