Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: Hey there, my name is Ethan Liew and I’m a Malaysian that currently working in Singapore.

What Inspires You Every day? : What inspires me is the spirit of not giving up no matter how many times we failed.

What is some words of wisdom you live by?: – Dream of the best, prepare for the worst.
– If you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing.

What is your ultimate goal in life? : My goal in life has always been to own a little house nearby a beach, raise pets, and have a small garden full of flowers.

How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : I’ve just switched to a new job at the beginning of 2020. The pandemic struck the world by surprise and every day was a nightmare to me because I did not know whether my company is going to lay me off. To make it worse, most of us are not allowed to leave the country, and 10 months have passed since my last trip back home.
Soon, I’ve learned that overthinking and worrying is not going to change anything or do any better for my life. So I decided to focus to expand my current skill sets by taking a few online courses and certifications. Surprisingly, I’ve managed to complete the certifications within the time frame that I set for myself. And, I’m saving up my money and will book the first flight ticket back home as soon as the border control has been lifted up.
If I were to conclude my 2020, I would say it’s painful yet rewarding. It was painful because you always worrying that you will lose your job and couldn’t afford to cover the bills. The rewarding part is that I started to have a serious self-reflection moment which I should’ve done long before this pandemic happen. This helps me to know myself better and make life/career/relationship goals to achieve in the coming years.

What is a positive message you would like to give others? : Hey people, I know you are struggling to make the end meets. Everyone does. Please do not lose hope and reach out for help if you need one. The world is real and cruel, but we must believe that there are people who are warm and can shine a light on your life. The night is dark just before dawn. Hang in there as a better future is just steps away from us. The struggle you have today will help to shape a better version of yourselves. Believe in hope, believe in yourselves.
