Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: My name is Atzin, but you may call me Atlas.
I was born on the 9th of February 1993 in the city of Graz in Styria, Austria.
My father is a painter and teacher, born mexican, now a citizen of Sweden.
My mother worked many jobs, she is a trained kindergardner and use to sing in the opera in Graz.
Two creative people who created me.
They gave me the opportunity to see a lot of our planet from my early days and onward.
We moved a lot: from Graz to Weiz, from Weiz back to Graz, and all over the Americas.
I grew up in Canada, many of the United States (mostly Hawaii), over Mexico, and down to Guatemala, where I first went to school.
I grew up speaking german, english, spanish and a guatemaltecan native language which the local kids thaught me.
We lived with family, friends, krishnas, a native american tribe (i think it was a Sioux tribe) and where ever our bus could stay the night.
My mother and my father split up when I was around 2 or 3, and soon after my stepfather stepped in (excuse the pun).
We still traveled the americas when my stepsister was born, tho she was also born in Graz. we didn’t come back to Austria until I was 6 or 7.
Coming back was a big culture shock.
I got to know so many open people along the way, and now I got beat up after school because I was the only brown kid around.
I didn’t knew what was on TV, I didn’t know about computers: I didn’t know the middle European way of life.
Over the years I got to know. I learned. And I tryed to fit in.
Be one of the cool kids.
That never worked out.
One day when I was in second grade, some fourth graders beat me up saying if I tell, I die. It was then when I learned not to snitch.
I came home and said we are in Austria, that’s why we shall speak german.
Then my spanish went to shit.
Despite all that my passion became languages and writting, together with music and other forms of art and expression.
Wrote my first Poems when I was 7, with 8 I learned to play the Guitar. Started to write my own songs right away.
With 12 I wrote my first Rap (it did’t get any better since then).
When I was 14 I started to play the piano and made my first beats.
Came a long way since my first recording with 15.
First Album started with 18 and got finished with 21 (some of that was fire).
I visited the european college of leisure and economics or ecole for short, but dropped out with 19 before my general qualification for university entrance because of mental health issues.
After a 5 week visit to a psychiatric institution in Graz i decided:
no more making other people happy.
So now I really had to walk my talk.
Since I was 15 I have been working as: a waiter, chef, gardner, paramedic and emergency driver, accountant, hired musician, medicine man, starving musician, sound engineer, and as school and leisure time assistant.
As the third member of noedge we use to connect the local underground hip hop szene of Graz in our monthly open mic sessions in the legendary musichouse.
From 2016 onward it was:
Free entry, free mics, and way too many people organizing.
Around the same time a band started to form, now known as the Hip Hop Kapelle or Hip Hop Chapel (find us on youtube).
We are a 7 head strong live band with 2 MCs (DNA and I), backing vocals by Lorena Valta, piano and backing vox by Claudia Döffinger, Markus Steinrück on guitar, Lukas Straußenberger on bass and our chapel master Mathias ‘Dafcaccino’ Schalk on Drums.
Today i am a proud father of a wonderful daughter and in a happy relationship.
Still staying true to myself and making music.
The struggle is real, and it is worth it.
