Introduce Yourself/Tell About Yourself: My name is Bella and I am 16 years old. I play lacrosse, run cross country, and do Nordic skiing. In 7th grade I got a traumatic brain injury from hockey and tore all the ligaments in my neck and was almost paralyzed. I was out of school for 3 months and in a neck brace for 4 months. I lost a lot of my balance and couldn’t walk for a while. Last year in 9th grade I started having seizures and the doctors said it was from my TBI. I was in and out of the hospital for a while and ended up having to redo a class in the summer because I couldn’t keep up. But despite that I keep on doing everything I do and educate people on the importance of protecting your head.

How have you been during the pandemic and how has it affected you? : This pandemic has had a lot of effects on me. Both of my parents are in healthcare so they are constantly being exposed. But back in March when healthcare workers were getting less PPE then they are now my dad got exposed and tested positive. He was completely asymptomatic but then I got it from him and was one of the first kids in Minnesota to get it. I had it really bad and ended up being hospitalized. I had really bad GI symptoms and it made my seizures really bad. It is scary that we don’t know the long term effects from having COVID but that is why it is so important that you wear your mask and social distance.
