Michaella Cuykendall: I value more of the Philippine culture, how they put family above everything, and never failed at being so generous to give everything they got.
Tell us a little about you(your background and how was it like)?
I grew up in a small town, called Battle Creek, MI. I was the 5th child in my Asian- American household. I went to a private school up through midway in my sophomore year, and dealt with a mass bullying problem that the school completely ignored so with the toll it was taking on my mental health, I had to switch to the public school that the town considered the “bad kid school” also known as Battle Creek Central. Which gave kids more reason to speak down on me. So I struggled a lot mentally but never let that keep me too far down.
What do you value most from your country?
Although raised in America, my mom is from the Philippines. So I value more of the Philippine culture, how they put family above everything, and never failed at being so generous to give everything they got.
Who influences you to go after your goals?
As clique as is sounds it’s my mom. We don’t have the funds for her to visit her family back home in the Philippines, and she’s struggling to keep the land that she owns there. So I want to be her peace, the one that gets her back there, pays for the house she wants built, and make sure she gets what she deserves for raising the kids she did.
What advice can you give a teen about going through hardships?
Hardships, they seem like they last forever. As a teenager you can’t even say you’ve experienced life, so think about the goal you got in the future, after you get through every hardship you got going now you’re just closer to that goal, and you got through every obstacle that held you back. Look at how proud you are of yourself now.
If you and only three wish to change your family or the world’s life what would they be?
The three wishes I would change in my families life is 1) financially stable till the end 2) Dads medical bills are paid off and he can possibility live a better life that lasts longer 3) keep us together, with all the family feuds at the end of the day I just want everyone together.
Was there a time u helped others out?
I see kids struggle at school daily with schoolwork. I pick up things easily, and I try my hardest to make sure I don’t see kids stressing and give them some help.
Are you happy in the position you are now in life?
I’m content with where I am now. I strive for more than just being content. I want to feel at peace with life before I say I’m happy in this position.
